Red Fox Friends
Dear All,

We welcome you to celebrate with us the evolution of Red Fox Friends - a wilderness school that has emerged from a period of reflection with a new mission and a new name, WILD EARTH! Please join us as we bring forward what has been met with positive feedback while learning from and leaving behind what has not. (Soon, when you enter our old website, redfoxfriends.com, you will be directed to our WILD EARTH website automatically. NEW LOGO & SITE DESIGN COMING SOON.....)

As we say goodbye to the name Red Fox Friends we would like to thank everyone involved for your pioneering spirit and support over the past four years. A wilderness school that continues to grow and evolve based on the needs of the community it serves cannot be successful without all of you. Together we will make WILD EARTH an organization filled with opportunities for all.

Our Mission: Wild EarthÍs mission is to create, offer and support learning experiences in nature that are inspiring, educational, fun, safe and accessible to all.

About Us:Wild Earth is a not-for-profit nature-based learning organization located in the Shawangunk Ridge region in the Hudson Valley of New York State. Wild Earth is currently managed by community members whose intention is to foster awareness and a deeper connection to the earth. Members of Wild Earth have been involved in wilderness education in the region since 2001.

About Our Programs: Wild Earth programs draw on teachings offered by native cultures and modern natural sciences. The programs utilize adventure, hands-on use of primitive skills, fun and games, and story and song to create opportunities that explore our natural surroundings while also finding the joy in learning.

We are looking forward to so much.

Wild Earth workers - David Brownstein, Paula Kucera, Amy Little, Hilton Purvis, Sharon Richards, Paul Tobin and Rochelle Victor.

The Natural Learning Take-Home Program

Kamana (All)

We highly recommend this as a foundation for learning wilderness skills! The Kamana Naturalist Training Program is a four level independent study program that covers the naturalist background needed to engage in the wilderness arts, including tracking, bird language, survival and native living skills, traditional herbalism, and naturalist mentoring.
• In order to learn how to track, you need to know the mammals of your area.
• To understand the language of the forest, you must know the birds and their calls.
• To practice outdoor survival skills, knowing the trees is essential.
• If you want to use the medicinal and edible plants of your area, you need to know where they grow and what they look like.
• Do you want to increase your awareness skills?
• Do you want to learn the hazards of your bioregion so you can move about the landscape safely and with confidence?

Kamana is completed "at your own pace and at your own place." It may take one to four years total to complete all four levels of the program. Kamana One: Exploring Natural Mystery embarks you on the Kamana journey and will bring you through two weeks of awareness exercises and six areas of ecological study using a field guide and audio series narrated by Jon Young. It will not only help you see if the entire Kamana program is for you, it will also help you begin to see the world through "native eyes." Kamana levels Two*, Three and Four include personal correspondence with Wilderness Awareness School instructors via mail, email and phone. It is Wilderness Awareness School's unique system of learning that will mentor you with the help of our trained instructors. (* Kamana Two correspondence is optional)
